Lesson: First Class Refresher.

Elements of an email. I have noticed that when some people write emails, they do not include important information in their emails.  It is important to include this information so that the reader of the email can quickly get the message and file it away if necessary.When you write an email you should include the following:

  • Sender Information
  • Subject of email
  • Greeting salutation (i.e. Dear Mr. Loreto)
  • Body of email
  • Closing salutation (i.e. Sincerely)
  • Sign your name (type your name

Write Mr. Loreto an email about something you would like to write about.

Journal: Choose a writing prompt from the Categories label or from the Tags on the right hand side of the website page.

Letter to your teacher:

  • Address it to a teacher in their Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.
  • State the purpose of your letter. (Why are you writing?)
  • Write a recommendation to your teacher about what website you believe you should use in your class. (Name the website and list reasons why you would like to use the website for class.)
  • Give a paragraph summary about the website. (Explain what the website is about. Highlight things like who uses the website, who made the website, how you know about the website and if other classes are using the website.)
  • Write a paragraph of the feature(s) of the website that you believe will benefit your class. (Explain what different things you can do on the website. Write about the things you hope to use in class.)
  • Give at least three suggested assignments the teacher could assign for that website. (Be as specific as possible.)
  • Give a summary of your recommendation. (Restate what you wrote previously.)
  • Sign your letter.

Summary of your letter in Paragraphs

  1. Write introduction.
  2. Summary of website.
  3. Explain features of website to be used in class.
  4. Give suggested assignments.
  5. Closing statements that include a summary of letter.

There is 3 days left in Creative Writing. The rest of time in class you will have to finish your assignments for creative writing. The following is a list of items that are due by the end of class, Tuesday, March 2, 2010. You must save them on your computer in your folder with the word “FINAL” added to the end of the file name (for example your file  “Mr Loreto Journal 318″ will turn into “Mr Loreto Journal 318 FINAL”.

1. Complete journal with at least 15 entries

2. Completed partner Website Map or  Completed letter to teacher

3. Completed HW item slide show

4. Saved journal to First Class

5. Check in with Mr. Loreto regarding your grade

You will be graduating as the 8th grade class of 2010.
Think about what that means.
In June you will have completed almost nine years of school.
In you journal today, reflect on that time.
Think back.

What was your first day of school like?

What were your friends like?
Have they changed?
How about your teachers, what are they like?

Write some advice for the classes that follow you on how to graduate the 8th grade.
You may write your advice as a step by step process to graduate.

You may write your advice as a list such as top ten things to do your 8th grade year.

It can come as advice on how to get good grades and get along with teachers.

Write some advice for the classes that follow you.

Write it the best way you know how.

  • Show in your slide show what you have learned (i.e. change font: size, color, type, use media: photos and videos, use masters, use shapes, use more than one theme, et cetera.)
  • Send Mr. Loreto an email from your first Class account answering the question, “What is my assignment 2 about?” Write a short paragraph that describes your presentation including the subject of your presentation, how many slides it will be, if you are using videos and/or photos, and a title.

Interview with Photo Booth and Pages

  • Review: The lesson today will be a review of what we learned before winter break (saving, copying and pasting, using Pages, and using Photo Booth)
  • Interview your neighbor. You will be interviewing the person sitting next to you. You will ask them three questions that are already written for you and you will write a fourth question to add to the interview. Copy and paste the following questions into your journal and record the answers using Photo Booth.
  • Question 1: What is your name? How did you get your name?
  • Question 2: What is your favorite thing to do in school?
  • Question 3: What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
  • Question 4: Write your own question. Remember to copy and paste questions 1 through 4 into your journal.
